Project description:
Platform corrosion rehabilitation and structural reinforcement; multiple locations
Location:
Southern USA, Gulf of Mexico
Structure condition:
Generalized corrosion, with some areas of localized deep pitting exceeding 50% wall loss.
Scope:
Isolate/Encapsulate existing corrosion; re-coat in areas of coating damage and loss to prevent further damage; reinforce structural strength in areas of damage and wall loss caused by oxidation to protect from ongoing exposure to the elements and to specifically protect from tidal movement and future storm surge damage. Re-coat additional structural members with 100% solids epoxy coating in the splash zone.
Scale:
Approximately 335 meters of combined sizes 8”, 12”, 18” and 36” structural components.
Installation conditions:
16-39 deg. C ambient temperature; 25-27 deg. C water temperature.
Installation type/Products:
Saltwater; above water level and underwater installation of Aquawrap® material system consisting of 5/20 UW Epoxy Putty Stick, Bio-Dur 560SW Epoxy Basecoat/Topcoat and Aquawrap® G-05 Reinforcing Wrap.
Original installation:
2005; subsequent periodic owner inspections with no issues.
Re-inspection:
2011 Contractor/Manufacturer representative re-inspection with no issues.
Outcome/Conclusion:
Installation still performing as designed, no further action needed at this time.
